Kim Smith Headshot Feb 2016Kim Smith is the sole proprietor of Successful Business & Events (SBE Management), a full service business and event management company founded in Langley, BC in 2004. Kim began her career in the legal and accounting field over 35 years ago, she learned and worked on manual systems, before computers did it all, which established meticulous accounting, management, and operational skills.  Kim attended business school and received formal training with honours in 1987.

When computers started making a difference in the workplace Kim had the good fortune of working with companies that were embracing the latest cutting-edge technology which provided her hands-on experience learning about business software programs. Since then Kim has been involved in the implementation of several automation projects including point of sale purchase with integrated inventory control, automation of financial services in pilot branches, online registration services with CRM database, and development of a customized membership database.

Kim returned to college in 2004 and obtained a Conference & Special Event Planning Diploma.  Kim’s keen eye for detail and previous business experience led to success in event management as it equipped her to deliver high level, professional events. She gained extensive experience in organizing events for industries interested in key policy issues, professional development and B2B/B2C relations. Kim’s duties included logistics, operations, and ongoing strategic planning with company executives.

Kim enjoys new challenges, diversity in her work, and making a difference in the community which prompted her interest in non-profit society management. She finds it very rewarding to provide her experience, to benefit dedicated, hardworking people, who give generously of their time to support a cause they are passionate about.

Kim has learned first-hand that volunteering is very fulfilling, however she also knows that volunteers are a precious commodity therefore enjoys working with them to achieve their goals and support their mission statement.

Kim’s past volunteer achievements include being a member of the British Columbia Regional Advisory Committee for the National Trails Coalition administering federal grant funding for trail expansion and rehabilitation in BC; Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission for the City of Langley; Member of the Metro Vancouver (formerly GVRD) Country Celebration Steering Committee; and event support for the BC Country Music Awards.  

For six years, Kim was the General Manager of the Quad Riders ATV Association of BC (ATVBC) providing client management, with land access and environmental consulting services to the provincial organization representing the interests of over 140,000 registered ATV/SxS riders in BC.  Kim’s role involved the development of policy, government liaise, strategic planning, operations, outreach programs and overall direction of the association.

Kim represented ATVBC on the Backcountry Power Sports Coalition of BC where she collaboratively advanced the interests of motorized recreation in BC, and adjudicated the annual provincial BC ORV Trail Fund in partnership with Recreation Sites and Trails BC, Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development.

Kim participated as a member of the Board of Directors on the Canadian Quad Council and was the ATVBC appointed rep for the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC.  She developed effective working relationships with the Province of BC, regional & local governments, industry, community groups, associations, clubs and other stakeholders vested in outdoor recreation.

In 2022, Kim enjoyed taking on a short term contract in the role of Development Manager for the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Foundation, with a mandate to create, preserve, and enhance first-class recreational trail systems, to attract tourists and diversify local economies, connecting healthy, vibrant communities throughout the Thompson Okanagan region.   

Kim’s main residence and office is in Langley, BC where she resides with her husband and two sons, however they spend as much time as possible recreating at their property in Tulameen, in the Similkameen Valley, enjoying quality time in the great outdoors!
